Lifelong photographers and California natives Suzette Allen and Jon Yoshinaga embarked on a coast to coast tour of the United States Sept. 6.

The 13,000-mile Bubble Trailer Light Tour aims to educate photography enthusiasts around the country in the art of travel photography.

The tour will last nine weeks and share images, videos, creativity, stories and good cheer with photographers and enthusiasts alike.

The duo’s 1985 13-foot camper trailer, or “Bubble Trailer,” will stop in cities such as Santa Cruz, Calif.; Miami, Fla.; Newark, N.J., and even Green Lake.

The Green Lake visit will take place Thursday, Sept. 19 and will feature Allen and Yoshinaga teaching a class in Town Square from 6 to 8 p.m.

Folks can take in the duo’s passion for photography as they share images, stories and techniques behind their travel photography.

Each presentation will include giveaways from the tour’s sponsors, such as Panasonic Lumix.

According to a press release, Allen has been a professional photographer for 35 years and a Photoshop instructor for 19.

Allen’s passion for teaching and helping creativity blossom within others was the motivation behind the Bubble Tour, the release added.

“Suzette’s well-established following will take her to professional guilds and associations to speak, and she will balance that with camera store presentations and meet up groups along the way,” the release said. “Many stops on the path are to visit with other professional photographers to collaborate, create and connect.”

Allen described the tour as a dream come true in her blog.

“I’ve been dreaming of it and thinking about it for over a year,” she wrote in a post announcing the tour.

Town Square Photography Group President Lee Fenendael made Town Square aware of the tour after a member posted about the tour on the group’s Facebook page.

“I arranged with an area photographer to pay Suzette’s fees,” Fenendael said. “I then contacted her and invited her to speak at Town Square Community Center when she is passing through.”

Fenendael worked closely with Town Square Programming Director Tammera Doering to work out some of the specifics in bringing the Bubble Trailer to Green Lake.

Doering noted the class will be in Studio A or B, but if enough people sign up it could be in the Town Square Ballroom.

Fenendael hopes to learn more about travel photography and get to know the human side of Allen and Yoshinga.

“These are world class photographers, who are using day No. 13 of the 70-day national tour to stop in Green Lake,” Fenendael said.

Town Square Marketing Manager Jorge Gutierrez noted the Allen and Yoshinaga’s class is part of Town Square’s larger effort to expand diversity in its programming.

“We’re trying to foster community and we thought it was a cool opportunity to be able to partner up with one of our clubs,” Gutierrez said.

Doering believes hosting the Bubble Trailer aligns with Town Square’s mission of providing educational opportunities for people of all ages.

“I think it furthers everybody’s imagination and creativity,” Doering said.

Gutierrez noted Town Square tries to be receptive to events and classes the community wants.

“If there is anything else people want to see, reach out to us and we’ll make it happen,” he said.

Allen’s and Yoshinaga’s presentation is open to the public; travelers and photographers alike may register.

Cost is $15 per person.

Photographers also may join the Town Square Photography Group. Regular meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m.

“Grab your camera and come to one of our events, or just drop in to a monthly meeting,” Fenendael said.
