June Dairy Days returns to Markesan June 8-10

As a salute to the area’s rich agricultural past, present and future, Markesan June Dairy Days is set to return, Friday, June 8 to Sunday, June 10.

Markesan’s signature festival will kick off Friday afternoon when the midway opens for June Dairy Days’ first-ever Date Night, where two riders can ride per ticket.

At the same time, individuals may check out the fourth-annual Dairy Fest Craft Fair at the Markesan City Hall.

Additional Friday evening events include the Green Lake County Pork Producers’ pig roast, the antique tractor pull in downtown Markesan and the Dairy Air 5K run/walk leading up to the City Fireworks Display, lighting up the night’s sky shortly after dusk.

For those who are a fan of music, June Dairy Days has it covered with local favorites The Characters hitting the stage Friday night from 4 to 8 p.m. Dexter Road will follow from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Saturday morning starts bright and early with the Agribusiness Country Style Breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m., during which, a special ceremony will be held to recognize this year’s farm family, parade marshal and June Dairy Days youth officer.

Following breakfast, the kids’ pedal pull returns with weigh-ins starting at 10 a.m., followed by pulling at 10:30.

It leads up to a new Saturday afternoon slate of events.

Kicking off June Dairy Days’ Family Day Saturday at noon, kids of all ages may enjoy a host of activities including a tractor show, where they can vote for their favorites.

The Dairy Fest Craft Fair also will be open Saturday.

Also from noon to 4 p.m., the June Dairy Days midway will feature wristband rides, where kids of all ages can go on unlimited rides with a wristband for just $17.

At the same time, guests are invited to come down to Taste of the Valley, where Markesan-area restaurants will be serving a la cart menus, with additional refreshments served by the Markesan Lions Club and the Little Red Dairy Barn along with the Prairie View Rockets 4H Club Pie Social.

Individuals who need to sit down for a spell may check out the Markesan Area Chamber of Commerce Bingo Extravaganza starting at 2 p.m.

Heading into Saturday evening, the signature event of the weekend is the June Dairy Days Parade, hosted by the Markesan Area Chamber of Commerce. It will hit the streets of Markesan starting at 7 p.m., leading up to more live music from area favorites Road Trip during the Fireman’s Street Dance from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

With Friday and Saturday’s events taking place in Hein Park, Sunday moves to Soldiers & Sailors Park on the southern shore of Little Green Lake for the Markesan Lions’ Famous Chicken BBQ.

There also will be kids’ carnival games, more live music from Country Tom from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the drawing of the chamber’s annual June Dairy Days Raffle around noon.
